Singapore– March 30, 2017 – Grand Banks Yachts Limited is proud to announce theintroduction of the new and highly anticipated Grand Banks 60. This yacht will further burnishthe company’s reputation of designing, engineering and building luxurious, long range motoryachts that have satisfied cruising owners since 1964. The new GB 60 incorporates the latestmarine technologies, from leading-edge construction to well-proven and reliable propulsionand manoeuvring systems.
“The GB 60 is taking Grand Banks in a whole new direction in terms of appearance, performance, and construction techniques,” said Grand Banks’ CEO Mark Richards, who cameto Grand Banks with the company’s acquisition of his Palm Beach Motor Yachts brand. “We areparticularly excited because this is the first collaboration effort between the design teams ofboth brands. The result is a better performing yacht with a fresh appearance.”
To make the yacht strong, light and thus more efficient, the entire deck and cabin house arefully infused utilising the highest quality carbon fibre available —a method primarily seen onperformance sailing craft. A fully-cored structure is employed using PVC foam core in areas ofspecific application, sandwiched between skins of stitched multi-axial carbon fibre, bonded withvinylester and epoxy resins and supported by infused composite panels in a robust grid system— all working together for long life, strength, and reliability in punishing open water conditions.
Managing a 51,520-lb. yacht requires excellent control at the helm. That’s why Grand Banksselected fuel-efficient twin 900-horsepower Volvo Penta D13 diesels on hull number one forthe main propulsion and mated them to Twin Disc Quick Shift marine transmissions. Dual TwinDisc EC300 Power Commander Electronic Controls and triple Twin Disc Express Joysticks, controlling not only the main propulsion straight-shaft drivetrains but also the Twin Disc BP300bow and stern thrusters give the helmsman fingertip control at low speeds for precisemanoeuvring capabilities around crowded docks or tightly packed slips, as well as instantthrottle response in open waters. And with a touch of the Express Positioning button, thesystem will automatically hold the GB 60 in the desired, GPS-located position and heading — ahuge benefit for those waiting for a bridge in tricky wind and current, or for those operatingshorthanded who need security while they leave to tend to lines and fenders. Engine optionsinclude shaft or IPS options. Depending upon the engine package selection, predictedperformance includes a top speed of 35 knots, a high-cruise speed of 27 knots, and a range of2,500 nautical-miles at 10 knots.
The GB 60 measures 20.4 meters LOA, has a beam of 5.8 meters, and draws only 1.1 meters. This means that Grand Banks is delivering a large, comfortable yacht that can be owned andoperated by a knowledgeable cruising couple, with the width and interior volume that makesextended stays practical for owners and their guests, and the capability to explore waters lessfrequented by other 60-footers with deeper draft. And the company is delivering these themesin a design that hearkens back to the days when balance and proportion were prerequisites fora desirable yacht, one that would be visually pleasing over decades. A quick glance at theexterior also sets this design apart as a true ocean-going yacht, with a large and well protectedflybridge, wide side decks with high bulwarks and handholds, and an extended boat deck thatshelters the aft deck from the elements. All of this, coupled with the optional Sea Keeperstabiliser, will position the new GB60 in the front of the pack in both safety and comfort at sea.
Seating abounds on the spacious flybridge, on the aft deck, and in the spacious salon. Largewindows bathe the main cabin — saloon, lower helm, and aft galley are all located on one leveldeck — with an abundance of natural light and ventilation, perfect for family and friendsenjoying the designer-driven fabrics and finishes. With three generous cabins and two full-sizeheads, finished in Grand Banks’ hallmark craftsmanship, guests will enjoy the overnightaccommodations usually reserved for owners. The owner’s stateroom is located in the beamymidsection, featuring a spacious walk-in wardrobe and full-height mirrors.
The Grand Banks 60 will make its debut appearance at the Sanctuary Cove International BoatShow, May 25 to 28, and will set the new benchmark for the venerable Grand Banks series.
