Shearwater Marine Resort, Denny Island, B.C.
(Read the LogBlog entry from Shearwater Resort)

The marina is the site of a WWII military seaplane base. The former hangar now serves as the shop. Shearwater is the most complete marine facility between Port Hardy and Prince Rupert. This former base is truly in the wilderness, and everything must be barged or flown in. The people who live here are hardy and self-reliant. Despite the remote location, Shearwater gets all sorts of visitors, from crew boats, water taxis, pile drivers, towboats, government boats, commercial fishermen, sports fishermen, kayakers, yachters, and Indians from New Bella Bella.

Things to See & Do

Fishing
Shearwater is a prime sports fishing location. From early May through September this myriad of channels, islands and inlets are teeming with all five species of salmon on their annual migrations to their natal streams. The highlights are definitely the huge, hard-hitting Chinook Salmon and the feisty and acrobatic Coho Salmon. Don't forget the plentiful bottom fish that will readily bite your lure, including Halibut, Lingcod, Rock Fish and Snapper. If there is time, you can talk to the locals to find out what is running, and where. Be sure you have a valid license for the area.

Hot Springs
There are several hot springs just a one-hour boat ride away. Eucott Bay Hot Springs, near Ocean Falls in Dean Channel, amongst the largest, best-known and beautiful on the coast. These hot springs are popular with boaters as Eucott Bay offers good anchorage and shelter for small craft. Talk to the locals for directions.

Water Taxi
